The last thing a team can afford to do these days is give Foxboro American Legion Post 93 baseball is give them extra outs. Westwood did just that last night as errors resulted in five unearned runs as Post 320 suffered an 8-2 setback at Xaverian Brothers High School in District 6 West action.
A dropped fly ball with two on and two outs in the third gave Foxboro (8-2) a 2-1 lead, one in which they never relinquished as they added another run in the inning and then added a single tally in the fourth.
A three-run fifth put Foxboro in cruise control with two of those runs being unearned against Matt Glennon who allowed seven runs (three earned) in four-plus innings while working on two days rest.
Jason Sementelli was 2-for-2 with a solo home run in the fifth. C.J. Parsons also had a pair of hits, narrowly missing a homer to left-center.
Bryan Ginsberg gave Westwood (9-7) a 1-0 lead in the first with a two-out single.
Post 320 heads to Norfolk tonight, with Post 335 trailing Westwood by one point in the standings.
Visiting Post 70 nearly wasted a 6-0 lead but managed to hang on for the win and increase their lead in the standings to six points.
Cory Sennott was 2-for-3 with four RBI with three coming on a second-inning home run that put Norwood in front 5-0. Sennott also lifted a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning that pushed the lead to 6-0 before Canton begin its comeback with a three-run fourth.
Jesse Shaughnessy (2-for-3) knocked in a run in the Norwood sixth, but Post 24 responded with a pair of unearned runs against starter Pat Hickey who worked the first 5 2/3 innings.
Brandon Davis got the final four outs to record the save, allowing a run on a walk, single and a pair of fly balls with catcher Kevin O’Sullivan recording the first out of the inning at third base, gunning down a would-be base stealer. He threw out four over the course of the game.
Billy Glynn put Post 70 (12-4) on the board in the first with a bases loaded free pass and Brian Williams made it 2-0 with a double in the second before scoring on Sennott’s blast.
Norwood will be in Foxboro tonight for a key showdown with Foxboro. Post 70 has a eight-point lead on Foxboro, but Post 93 has six games in hand.
