Connecticut’s Shelton National made it 2-for-2 in revenge games in the New England Region Little League Tournament semifinals last night.
After Walpole American had dispatched the lone team to beat them in pool play, defending champion Portsmouth, N.H., in the early game, Shelton National avenged it lone conquest with a 6-0 blanking of Maine’s Portland North to advance to tomorrow’s final. The Connecticut champs improve to 4-1 in the tournament and 18-2 overall.
Southpaw Jacob Lennertz submitted a dominant shutout performance on the mound, going all six innings for the win, allowing three hits and no walks and striking out 13. Nick Petrovich led the way offensively for Shelton with three hits and four RBI, including his third homer of the tournament, a three-run shot that broke the ice in the third.
