In the midst of its first two-game skid of the season, the Dedham High girls basketball team showed few signs of ending its struggles early on in Milton on Tuesday night.

But after being held scoreless for the opening five minutes, the Marauders awoke from their slumber with abandon, using an 18-1 run to take control in a 47-40 victory.

"After the first five minutes, we looked like the team that started the season the first seven games," said Dedham coach Don Savi. "We had been in a slump last two games and it carried over, but we turned it around and played a good three-plus quarters."

The win improves Dedham to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the Bay State Conference at the midway point of its slate.

Senior captain Emily Hill powered Dedham to the victory with a career-high 26 points, which included banking in a deep buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the third quarter, one of her two 3s on the night. The 26-point performance is the top output for the Marauders this year.

Milton jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Britney Castro came off the bench to hit a runner to break the ice for Dedham, sparking a burst that put the Marauders up 18-11.

"We started rebounding and got out running on the fast break," said Savi.

The Wildcats responded with the last four points of the half to cut the lead to 18-15 at the break, but Dedham stretched it back out to 36-25 after three thanks to Hill’s bomb to end the frame and built the lead as high as 14 in the fourth quarter.

The Marauders rallied out of an 18-10 halftime deficit against Walpole on Friday night to take a brief lead with four minutes to go, but the Herget Division-leading Rebels recovered to pull away for a 45-37 win.

Just four players registered points for the Marauders as Libby Masalsky led the way with 13 points while Ellen Masalsky and Brianna Dozier chipped in 10 each. Dedham lost sophomore guard Jenn Wadman to an injury in the second half and she remained sidelined against Milton.

Dedham has a rare Friday night off having moved up its normally scheduled game with Braintree, returning to action by hosting Wellesley on Tuesday.

"It’s like having a bye," said Savi. "We can rest up, work on some things and get ready for the second half."
