Beijing, China —

With a loss Thursday to Germany, 4-2, the U.S. women's field hockey team will have a hard time reaching the medal rounds in the Beijing Olympics.

Former Walpole High star Dina Rizzo played nine minutes.

The U.S. started strong, taking a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. But the Americans were not able to overcome a three-point second half from Germany.

Now at 0-1-2, the U.S. team is in fifth place, of six, in Pool B. With two games left, the women will have to finish in first or second to move on. Germany leads the pool with a record of 3-0.

During her years at Walpole High, Rizzo, 28, played on three state championship field hockey squads. The Porkers star went on to win an NCAA championship at the University of Maryland. She’s been a forward on the national team since 2002.

This is first time the U.S. women have been in the Olympics since 1996.
