This holiday season 100 Dedham children received gift certificates good for one pair of children’s shoes from any Payless Shoesource store.  These gift certificates were generously provided through the Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids Holiday Giving Program, a national grassroots effort to deliver $1.2 million in free shoes to children of families in need this past December.

The Dedham Community House (DCH) and the Dedham Housing Authority (DHA) again collaborated in a joint application to the program.  The organizations were awarded twice as many certificates as in 2008 when they first participated in the effort.

The application was one of 700 chosen from a pool of over 3,100 nonprofit organizations spread across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and 11 Latin American countries.

“We were so pleased to bring this valuable program to Dedham families once again,” said DCH Executive Director Michelle Persson Reilly. “Collaborating with other local organizations to make good things happen in this town is a growing part of what DCH is about.”

Once the gift certificates arrived in December all 100 were quickly distributed to deserving families through the Dedham Housing Authority. “This is a wonderful program sponsored by Payless Shoesource that serves a very important and basic need to deserving children in Dedham,” said Housing Authority Executive Director Joanne Toomey. “The DHA is again proud to be a partner with the Dedham Community House in this holiday effort that is so valuable to the Dedham community.”

The Dedham Housing Authority’s mission is to provide decent, safe and affordable housing to low-income residents. The Dedham Community House is celebrating its 90th Anniversary this year and is dedicated to furthering the educational, recreational, cultural and civic interests of residents of all ages of Dedham and surrounding communities.
