Police: Tot calls 911 for help
WALTHAM -- A 7-year-old called 911 from a cell phone Tuesday, after she saw her father assault her mother and smash the family phone so the woman could not call police for help, police said.
Israel Velazquez, 25, of 34H Hansen Road, was charged with assault and battery and intimidation of a witness, Detective Lt. Brian Navin said.
He said the family was on its way out to a Fourth of July event about 10 a.m., when the couple got into an argument and Velazquez pushed his wife.
Waltham man charged with assault, making murder threats
WALTHAM -- A Garden Circle man who was mad his van was towed from his parking lot was arrested Saturday when he spit on an employee of the apartment complex and threatened to kill him with a brick or a large stone, police said.
George Sekisambu's van had been towed several times before, Detective Lt. Brian Navin said.
When an employee of Garden Crest apartment complex came to patrol the lot and tow vehicles that did not display a proper parking permit, Sekisambu got angry, he said.
He said Sekisambu ran outside, yelled at the 49-year-old employee, spit in his face and eyes several times and threatened to kill him with either a brick or a stone that he picked up and raised over his head.
Sekisambu, 43, of 29 Garden Circle, Apt. 7, was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and making threats to commit a crime, Navin said.
He said the employee ran to his car and left, and then called police. He said a woman also witnessed the incident from her window.
Navin said he does not know why Sekisambu does not have a parking permit.
The incident occurred at 8:14 a.m., he said.
Waltham man charged with assault
WALTHAM -- A drunken Stearns Hill Road man was arrested at his home Monday after he smashed two doors with a metal folding chair and put friends in fear he would hit them, police said.
John Minelli, 22, of 5710 Stearns Hill Road, was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon, police said.
He was arrested at 2:11 p.m. No one was injured, police said.
Waltham man arrested on warrant
WALTHAM -- A Middlesex Circle man was arrested at his home early Monday morning on a Roxbury District Court warrant, police said.
Mark Wuonola, 58, of 30 Middlesex Circle, Apt. 15, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, police said.
He was arrested at 1:24 a.m., police said.
Homeless man charged with shoplifting
WALTHAM -- A homeless man was arrested at Hannaford Supermarket Sunday afternoon after he tried to steal three Gillette razors, cooked chicken and salad dressing, police said.
Richard Brown, 36, was charged with shoplifting when he was arrested at 2:10 p.m., police said.
Police: Waltham man violated restraining order
WALTHAM -- A Common Street man was arrested Saturday night on charges he called his ex-girlfriend's cell phone 10 times in violation of a restraining order, police said.
John Chambers, 48, of 26A Common St., was arrested just after 10 p.m., police said.
Framingham man charged with drug possession
WALTHAM -- A Framingham man was arrested during a traffic stop on Lexington Street early Saturday morning, police said.
Pedro Fuentes, 26, of 44 Dinsmore Road, was charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana, Detective Lt. Brian Navin said.
He said Fuentes was sitting on the marijuana in the police cruiser, and officers found it at the station.
Fuentes was arrested at 2:36 a.m., he said.
Police: Waltham man violated restraining order
WALTHAM -- A Crescent Street man was arrested on River Street Monday afternoon after he saw his daughter at the Hess gas station and smiled at her for several minutes in violation of a restraining order, police said.
Jose Ortiz, 42, of 151 Crescent St., approached the 17-year-old about 3:30 p.m., police said.
Waltham man arrested on warrant
WALTHAM -- A Thayer Road man was arrested at his home Monday afternoon on a Concord District Court warrant, police said.
John Shields, 36, of 19 Thayer Road, was charged with a probation violation, police said.
He was arrested at 4:40 p.m., according to police.
Waltham woman charged with disorderly conduct
WALTHAM -- A Maple Street woman was arrested at her home Monday night after police responded there twice on reports she was yelling at people from her driveway, police said.
Anne Hughes, 47, of 10 Maple St., was charged with disorderly conduct, Detective Lt. Brian Navin said.
He said police responded to Hughes' home earlier in the evening and convinced her to go inside. They were called back soon after when she went back out and continued yelling.
Navin said officers convinced her to go inside a second time, but she came back out before they left the scene.
Hughes was arrested at 7:32 p.m. Navin said he does not know why she was yelling at people.
Waltham man charged with public drinking
WALTHAM -- A Harvard Street man was arrested Monday night after someone called police to report he was drinking beer in his car on Benefit Street, police said.
Otto Gonzalez, 27, of 56 Harvard St., was charged with public drinking when he was arrested just before 9 p.m., police said.
Police said Gonzalez was drinking a can of Heineken.
Police: Newton man explodes illegal fireworks
NEWTON -- An uncooperative Newton man will be summoned to Newton District Court on charges he illegally possessed and exploded fireworks on school property Tuesday, police said.
The 21-year-old, who was not identified because he was not arrested, was caught by police after an officer on patrol saw him and another man ignite a Roman candle at the Franklin School, police said.
The school, located at 125 Derby St., is clearly marked no trespassing, police said.
The suspect will be charged with unlawful possession and exploding of fireworks and trespassing, police said.
Police said the suspect refused to identify the other man involved.
The incident occurred at 11:55 p.m., police said.
