Suspicious box creates stir in Walpole

State Police bomb squad and Hazmat units determined that a suspicious package posed no threat to the public Monday morning after it was found on the side of the road at the intersection of Rte. 1 and Moose Hill Road.

Walpole police were notified of the suspicious box, which was labeled with the word “anthrax,” at 10:51 a.m., police said. Officers secured the area before State Police examined the box and found it to be empty.

The area was cleared about an hour later, police said.

No homes or businesses were evacuated.
