For the past 30 years, members of the Council of Aging have been working to create a senior center that would enhance the lives of Dedham’s older residents. We are now in a position to build a facility where we will be able to offer a wide array of activities and services to meet the needs of today’s active and engaged senior citizens now and for years to come. It will be a true asset to the town of Dedham.
The goal of the center is to expand the Council’s offerings so it can best serve this growing segment of our population. Exercise classes, book clubs, education seminars, job skills training, family support, social programs, dinners and dances. This is just a sample of the activities the Council can offer in the new facility.
Much has been said about whether seniors will actually use the new senior center. As members of the Council we see things many Dedham residents do not. We see the seniors requiring care and services that most of us will need but that will make a world of difference to their quality of life. Maybe the senior center is not for you, but consider the huge difference it can make for someone else.
Dedham’s seniors are our family members and friends. They are our town officials, town employees, coaches, teachers and taxpayers. Isn’t it time that we give them the resources they need and deserve?
