Norwood —

The people of Norwood, I’m sure if given the opportunity to reply to another survey, would still place an indoor swimming pool at the top of their list of what they would like to have for recreational facilities.

Whether at the high school or standalone, it would have much to offer for activities. There could be water aerobics, swim team practice and meets, instruction and safety training for children, swim lessons for toddlers through adults, lap swim, lifeguard training, and we may even have a future Olympic competitor. Many youths that may not have transportation or cannot afford to go outside of Norwood to another pool and may have the potential to be great swimmers could develop that ability here in Norwood. These activities and more would be available all year, rather than just the summer.

Dedham High School has a pool. Westwood High School has a pool. It would be a huge omission if, with all the work to be done at Norwood High School, a pool was not included. It’s just in recent years, since the old recreation center has been gone, that Norwood does not have an indoor pool.

If, for some reason, a pool turns out to be not feasible at the high school, I suggest converting Father Mac’s. It seems the pool at Father Mac’s needs repairs and a possibility would be to enclose it.
