My father, Bertrand Shannon, loved to write letters to the editor. I am writing today to thank all the readers who have enjoyed his letters over the years.
Dad would write on any subject that he read about in the paper or saw on the news; nothing was off limits! Many people would tell us how much they loved Dad’s letters, agreed with him, or just missed them when he hadn’t written for a while. Some readers did not agree with him and would write a letter back to the editor, write to Dad directly, or even call the house to debate something with him. Dad always got a kick out of hearing what others thought of a letter.
My father will not be writing any more letters to the editor as his short battle with cancer ended May 12. It is truly the ending of an era and the turning of a page. He will be missed by many.
