WALPOLE —

We would appreciate a chance to thank a few people who helped save our home last week.

In the early morning of July 21, lightning struck our house and started a small fire on the roof. We were not home at the time, but apparently there was a thunderous explosion that rocked the neighborhood. Our neighbors Marty and Maura Grealish looked out their window and noticed glowing embers at the tip of our roof. They promptly called 911. Marty actually ran into our driveway and started spraying our house with the garden house until the firemen arrived.

The fire department crew, led by Captain David Kehoe, arrived at the scene and quickly extinguished the flames. The damage was minimized by their quick and efficient work. The crew stayed at our house for several hours until we were able to return. These brave and considerate men even cleaned up the clapboards that were strewn all over ours and the neighbor’s yards from the initial explosion.

Captain Kehoe acknowledged that if it weren’t for our considerate neighbors, the fire would have quickly spread along the roof and probably would have destroyed our home. We feel privileged and honored to have such heroic neighbors and truly professional firefighters in our community.
