Letter: Town officials not addressing construction concerns

After reading Candace Leary’s column I felt the need to clarify my issues which she wrote about in a recent column and that I’ve seen written about in the local newspapers.

I am a direct abutter to the high school and have raised issues about the noise, smell, dust, and lack of response from town officials.

Let me just clarify these items. The smell lasted one day and it was awful. I never got a clear answer as to what it was but, thankfully, it is gone. There is no dust yet. I’ve been asking both our town officials and project management for weeks to address the huge material piles before it does become a problem. To my knowledge nothing has been done about it yet. The noise is simply terrible when the machines are running. I can only imagine what it will be like once this project is in full swing.

At this point I have given up on our town manager. My questions are answered in a condescending tone and I am made to feel that I should not question anything. Maybe someone with more patience should be in the position of dealing with people whose lives will be disrupted over the next four or so years with regard to this project.

In any event, I’m wondering how much comfort parents will take knowing that the noise that is disrupting their children’s high school classes is no louder than an air conditioner.
