I am writing in response to Jim Taylor’s letter, “Hold onto your wallets,” on June 12.
I am not a member of the Committee of 21, but I appreciate the time and energy they freely gave to carefully evaluate what is the best, most cost-effective plan for the high school. After a lengthy process they determined that a new school is the best plan and, guess what Mr. Taylor, the state agrees! (To my knowledge, the state isn’t eager to give money away for luxuries.)
As a member of a two-parent, working family, I find Mr. Taylor's remarks of “Well-to-do lawyers and other professionals who wouldn't mind paying more taxes for this luxury” offensive and outrageous. Like many families raising children in this part of the country and in this economy, we too often feel like we too are living on a fixed income. For the future of this community however, a new high school is not a luxury, it is a necessity, and one that we can't afford not to invest in.
