I am writing to express my concern about Norwood’s decision to exclude Jews from Norwood Day. Jerry Miller’s so-called apology is insulting to Jews and to citizens of Norwood.

It is disingenuous to say that the decision to hold Norwood Day on Rosh Hashanah was unavoidable and not intended. The Norwood Day committee and selectmen Lyons, McQuaid, and Kelleher had the opportunity to change the date or cancel the event. Instead, they chose to do what they know is wrong and send the message that anti-Semitism is acceptable in Norwood.

Newspaper accounts indicate that selectman Bill Plasko said, “How we address the issue says a lot about us.” It certainly does. It says that Jews are not welcome at Norwood Day, and, by extension, Jews are not welcome in Norwood.
