NORWOOD —

With all due respect to the Committee of 21, I’m sure that the time and effort you all spent on this project is greatly appreciated by everyone in town. But what about the people in town who just cannot afford to pay another $400-$600 to build a new high school on top of the annual increase of roughly $200? With the sharp decrease in home values, I don’t see the assessors running out to re-evaluate property and decreasing the property tax.

I agree that several improvements need to be made, but to build a new high school on that property is not very economical. There is just not enough space. It would be a wiser decision to move the high school down to where the middle school is, where there is a lot more space for athletic fields, so that home games can be played at home, not somewhere else. There are already tennis courts and a swimming pool on site.

While on the subject of a swimming pool, whatever happened to the money that was to be held in reserve from the sale of the old Civic Center for future construction of an indoor pool?

If we are going to spend $100 to $200 million, let’s make sure we are doing the best possible thing for the residents and students of this town. Maybe renovation, even if it is extensive, would be the best for everyone during this so-called recession.
