Maroney: Oil, gas, jobs and Obama

I happened to be listening to Rush Limbaugh recently as I was driving along. He was having a very interesting conversation with a man who identified himself as a lifelong, dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. At least he had been a Democrat, right up until he heard that President Obama had rejected the TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline. He said he was a self-employed taxi driver, and was disgusted that the president would turn down a project that would not only create thousands of jobs, but produce millions of gallons of precious oil.

As a taxi driver, he is more aware of the rise in gasoline prices than the average American. He depends on driving for his livelihood, and brought up the fact that every time the price of gas goes up, the price of food, clothing, household goods — in short, everything we consume, increases as well.

Rush listened quietly for several minutes without interruption because he realized his caller was expressing the views of millions of Americans, who are equally concerned with the cost of living increasing day by day.

Normally, when the price of gas goes up, we think only of how much more we have to pay to fill our gas tanks. But Rush’s caller was pointing out the fact that everything we consume is dependent on the price of oil. Our homes are heated with oil. Our food is delivered in trucks. Taxis, buses, fire trucks, ambulances, airplanes, all these vehicles depend on gasoline. In other words, we are an oil dependent nation. When the price of gas goes up, so does everything else.

And yet, Barack Obama, with a straight face can say: “You should know that keeping the economy growing and making sure jobs are available is the first thing I think about when I wake up every morning. It’s the last thing I think about when I go to bed each night.”

I found another little gem in an article written in October 2010, just before the election in November showing what Obama really thinks of Americans.

“In his remarks at a Democratic fundraiser in Massachusetts…….Obama told the several dozen donors that he was offering them his “view from the Oval Office.” According to Politico, Obama blamed the economic downturn for Americans’ inability to “think clearly” and said the burden is on Democrats “to break through the fear and the frustration people are feeling.”

Note to Barack Obama: I wake up every morning wondering when Americans are going to realize that with the help of the mainstream media, you pulled off one of the biggest hoaxes in the history of the United States. And when I go to bed at night, I pray that they will wake up before it’s too late to save America.
