Police said they arrested Maurice Thomas, 18, of 106 Brunswick St. in Dorchester, on charges of shoplifting from Lucky Brand at 610 Legacy Place on Monday, May 17.
Police officers were handling a call for a suspicious person in Showcase Cinema de Lux at 5:25 p.m. when they heard about a shoplifting incident at Lucky Brand, said Lt. Robert Nedder. A store employee said that an “extremely tall” man wearing a baseball cap had taken a woman’s shirt and possibly a pair of jeans and left the store without paying, and that he was with another man wearing a bright yellow polo-style shirt and a woman, Nedder said.
Officer Collin O’Sullivan saw a threesome matching that description walking toward Urban Outfitters, but as soon as they saw the officer looking at them, they began walking away from a 2010 gray Dodge Avenger, Nedder said.
Police did not find any merchandise on the people, including the 6 feet 9 inches Thomas, Nedder said. But some time later Officer Brian Crump stopped the gray sedan across from Whole Foods Market. Two separate people were inside, and one said she had seen Thomas leave Lucky Brand and throw a shirt into the back seat, and Crump found it there, Nedder said. Since the people in the car knew Thomas, Crump asked them to call him, and Thomas returned to the area and was arrested for shoplifting, Nedder said.
Thomas was due to be arraigned in Dedham District Court May 18 but did not appear there, Nedder said.
