THURSDAY, OCT. 1
Home Alone Safety at Dedham Community House at 671 High St. During this class, taught by Juanita Allen, children will learn telephone and door answering techniques, Internet safety, accident and fire protection and first aid techniques. Class meets Thursday, Oct. 1 at 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. for children ages 9 to 11. Cost is $40 for members and $45 for non-members. Information: www.dedhamcommunityhouse.org.

Early Childhood Music & Music and Movement for Elders at Dedham Community House at 671 High St. This 10-week course, starting Thursday, Oct 1, is offered in partnership with the Dedham School of Music and is taught by Sung Kim. Dalcroze Eurhythmics is musical training comprising the basic elements of music; rhythm, dynamics, tone and form.  It's an introduction to music through fun, interactive activities.  It is a unique, exciting, powerful education in music for all ages and at all levels. As a precursor to or in tandem with private music lessons, Dalcroze Eurhythmics will create a platform for accelerated and deep musical learning. There are four classes: Early Beginnings for 2 - 3.5 years: 11:00 - 11:45 a.m.; Stepping Stones for 3.5 - 4 years: 12:00 - 12:45 p.m.; Musical Gateways for 5 - 6 year: 4:00 - 4:45 p.m.; Music and Movement for Elders for Adults: 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. The course costs $150 for all participants. Dedham Papa Gino’s on 600 Providence Highway, is holding a fundraiser now through Sunday, Oct.18. Donate $1 to support the “Football For You” youth clinic featuring former New England Patriots players and receive a coupon booklet worth $25. The booklet also includes a coupon for discounted admission to The Hall at Patriot Place Presented by Raytheon. In addition, guests will receive a 2009 New England Patriots Schedule. 

FRIDAY, OCT. 2
Trivia night to benefit the Dedham Food Pantry held at the American Legion Hall on Eastern Avenue on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. There will be prizes and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets cost $25. There is a limit of 10 people per table. To buy tickets, contact Diane Barry-Preston at 617-347-2726 or dbarrypreston@gmail.com.

Dedham Public Television will introduce the new program, “Nanny Yvonne,” on DPTV this October.
Nanny Yvonne, from show “Nanny 911,” takes on Dedham in her new program “Nanny Yvonne.” In the premiere episode, Nanny Yvonne interviews Matt Damon’s mom, discusses foods for picky eaters with a nutritionist from Shaw’s, and helps a local mom with her restless child. “Nanny Yvonne” debuts Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.

SATURDAY, OCT. 3
American Legion’s Annual Flea Market will be on Saturday, Oct. 3 (rain date Oct. 4), from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Legion Post 18, 155 Eastern Ave. (the one with the tank). Organizers promise a bargain hunter’s paradise. Proceeds will help support our troops and our veterans.

Woodworking for Kids at Dedham Community House at 671 High St. Instructor Rich Suchorski introduces children to a variety of tools, learning proper use and safety, while creating some great projects to take home. Suchorski is a retired HASBRO toy designer and Dedham Community House’s summer camp woodworking director. Woodworking for Kids starts Saturday, Oct. 3 and meets for eight weeks. There are two classes depending on age: 7 to 9-year-olds meet 9 to 10 a.m. and 10 to 11-year-olds meet 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Woodworking for Kids is $90 for members: $90  and $100 for non-members. New York Times Bestselling author Nancy Werlin will be at The Blue Bunny bookstore, at 577 High St. on Saturday Oct. 3, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., to read and sign copies of her book “Impossible.” This young adult fantasy-thriller-romance, “Impossible,” was inspired by the ballad "Scarborough Fair," has been on the New York Times bestseller list for weeks now. “Impossible,” tells the story of 17-year-old Lucy, who discovers that the women of her family have been cursed through the generations, forced to attempt three seemingly impossible tasks or to fall into madness upon their child's birth.

SUNDAY, OCT. 4
Bernie’s Run 5k, hosted by the Village Manor, will be on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. Participants need to register by 10:45 a.m. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Dedham Education Foundation. The course is primarily flat. The cost is $18 for pre-entry and $20 to enter the day of the race. Post-race food and beverages will be served. Awards will be given to the top three female finishers, the top three male open finishers, the top three masters (40 or older), and the top male and female youth (18 or younger) finishers. The race is dedicated to Bernie Logue, who was a good friend to many in the community. Information and an online entry form are available at www.thevillagemanor.com. WEDNESDAY, OCT. 7
Potter Maggie Furtak will be at Dedham farmers market on Wednesday, Oct.7, for a pottery wheel demonstration. Dedham’s farmers market is open every Wednesday in the Dedham Permit Lot on Eastern Avenue from noon to 6 p.m. through the end of October. There is free parking in the adjacent town parking lot, across from Mocha Java, and metered parking along the street.
