Dedham police said they found a 44-year-old man limping on River Street early this morning after he was stabbed in the back across the city line in Boston.

Lt. Robert Nedder said today that Officer Timothy Miranda was patrolling at 2:15 a.m. when he saw a man limping around 111 River St. The man, who was alert, said he had been stabbed, so paramedics arrived to treat him, Nedder said.

When Dedham Police determined that the incident took place in Boston, police from that force took over the investigation, Nedder said. Police said they believe the stabbing occurred on Milton Street in Hyde Park.

Boston police could not immediately provide information on the stabbing.
