Finz Seafood & Grill is out and Sagra Restaurant will soon be in at 910 Washington St., with selectmen voting tonight to approve the transfer of an all-alcoholic restaurant license between the two.

Attorney Peter Zahka, representing Sagra Restaurant co-owners Rafael Beamud and George Tavares, said the Rte. 1A location has held various restaurants since at least the 1960s, most recently Finz Dedham, which opened in spring 2007.

“Unfortunately for Finz…there was major road construction there which for some time actually closed the entranceway to Finz, coupled with I think the economic climate and of course some of the new competition in town, has made Finz take a look at it and has decided to close their Dedham restaurant,” Zahka said.

Signs posted on the front doors of the restaurant and fish market tell guests that Finz has closed, and thank them for their support and patronage.

Selectman James MacDonald said he is “sorry to see Finz leave.”

“You were the victim of prolonged construction on the site which clearly hampered your business,” MacDonald said, adding that he hopes the bridge that extends over Rte. 128 gets fixed. “I know the residents have enjoyed having a first-rate seafood restaurant within the town.”

Replacing it will be Sagra, which Zahka described as “a family-oriented Italian restaurant.” It’s the second location for the restaurant; the first is on Highland Avenue in Somerville.

Beamud – who was also approved by selectmen as the manager of record, pending a few conditions – said he is planning for a “soft opening” at the end of April.

He said he is retaining 95 percent of the staff, but not two kitchen staff and one bartender.

Zahka said Sagra will lease the property from Finz Dedham Realty LLC, which will remain its owner.

No word yet on what will happen to the Vegawatt, the massive box out the back door that turns used vegetable oil into a clean fuel that produces electricity and hot water. Finz was the first restaurant in the country to install a Vegawatt in December 2008.
