Six people were hurt last Thursday, police say, when a car driven by drunken New Hampshire man ran a red light at routes 1 and 27 and plowed into an SUV.
Daniel Reynolds, 22, who is being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving and failure to stop at a red light - did not suffer serious injury, according to police.
Reynolds, 22, of 483 Donald St., Bedford, N.H., was convicted of drunk driving in Manchester, N.H. in the fall of 2007, police records say. Reynolds was arraigned in Wrentham District Court on Sept. 4 and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He is slated for a pretrial conference on Sept. 18.
After the crash, Reynolds told police that he had been drinking at the Patriots preseason game that night and was kicked out of Gillette Stadium for unruly behavior.
Witnesses told police that Reynolds' Buick LeSabre ran a red light at routes 1 and 27 and collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee, containing a family of five, traveling southbound on Rte. 27.
The Cherokee overturned and landed on its roof.
Officer John Thayer came across the scene about 10:30 p.m..
"There were people scrambling all over to both vehicles involved and numerous people screaming there were babies trapped inside the upside down vehicle," Thayer wrote in his report.
When he reached the Jeep, the officer said a woman was still inside frantically trying to reach her 9-year-old son. Thayer pulled the boy from the wreckage.
The boy's 34-year-old father Nathaniel Reed, suffered a fractured neck and was taken to Caritas Norwood Hospital and later transferred to a Boston hospital. The mother, Belinda Mercado, of Dorchester, and the three children, ages, King Reed, 9, Jewell Reed, 5, and Reyna Reed, five months, were treated at Caritas and released that night.
Reynolds' younger brother, Joshua, suffered head injuries and was also taken to the hospital, police said. Erold Grant, 25, in the Buick was also taken to the hospital.
Joshua Reynolds, according to reports, was "laying on the ground screaming in pain and had a shirt wrapped around his head to stop the bleeding."
At the scene, police said Daniel Reynolds admitted to both drinking and driving.
Officers wrote in their reports that Daniel Reynolds smelled of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet, had glassy and bloodshot eyes, and slurred his speech when they spoke to him.
Police found an open and still cold bottle of beer in the car and a 12-pack of beer with two unopened cans left, according to reports.
