Hebrew SeniorLife (HSL), the largest provider of senior health care and housing in New England and an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, announced the appointment of Jennifer K. Silver as chairman of the organization’s Board of Directors. In this role, Silver will help guide the implementation of HSL’s strategic plans. A six-year member of the HSL Board of Directors, Silver previously served as Vice Chair and chaired the Strategic Issues Committee which recently completed its review of governance at HSL.

“We are an organization that is not satisfied with the status quo in aging; we question every assumption about how people age and work each day to improve the quality of life of seniors,” said Len Fishman, CEO, Hebrew SeniorLife. “Jennifer’s passion for our mission and her proven leadership are the perfect match for us, and her guidance on our strategic approach will be invaluable.”

Silver is the founder and managing partner of Redwood Investments, an equity management firm headquartered in Newton. Prior to founding Redwood Investments, she was a managing director with Neuberger Berman and a managing director at Putnam Investments.

“Hebrew SeniorLife’s groundbreaking approach to senior care is something I witnessed first-hand when my grandmother was a resident,” said Silver. “With 10,000 Baby Boomers turning 65 every day, our nation is on the cusp of an unprecedented demographic change, and millions of seniors are going to need the care that my grandmother received. Hebrew SeniorLife is the acknowledged driving force behind many of the major changes in how seniors are cared for in America, and I look forward to helping them chart the course for the new reality of our aging population and promoting the independence and wellbeing of all seniors.”

A long-standing leader in Boston’s health care and non-profit communities, Silver serves on Combined Jewish Philanthropies’ Board of Directors and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Board of Trustees. She was a Past Chair of the Boston Jewish Women’s Community Fund and past Board member of the New England Aquarium.
