WALPOLE —

A noontime knifepoint robbery in Bird Park on Tuesday has led to the arrest of a Walpole teenager, and police are looking for another teen suspect.

Connor P. Murphy, 18, of 1377 North St., was charged with armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a dangerous weapon after he turned himself into Avon Police on Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy Police Chief Scott Bushway said he did not know why the Walpole resident turned himself into police in Avon, but said the fact that he did so at all was due to him hearing that Walpole Police were looking for him.

A warrant for the arrest of a 19-year-old Foxborough resident has been issued for committing the robbery as well, said police.

The incident occurred after the two suspects and the victim drove to Bird Park together. The two suspects told the victim they were going to the park to play basketball, Bushway said.

"I certainly wouldn't characterize them as friends," said Bushway, adding the three did, however, know each other prior to Tuesday.

It appears all three had once lived together briefly in a community facility, the deputy chief explained.

After the three got out of the vehicle in Bird Park, the Foxborough teen jumped the victim, held a knife to his throat and robbed him of cash and an iPod with the help of Murphy, Bushway said.

Bushway said Murphy and the Foxborough teen were aware that the victim was carrying $1,000 in cash at the time. Bushway said police do not know why the alleged victim was carrying around that much money.

After the incident, the suspects fled in a red 2002 Infiniti, according to police records.

The victim, who is not from Walpole or familiar with the area, then walked out of the park and reported the incident to an officer on Wolcott Avenue, police said.

Since the victim knew the alleged robbers, there was "a considerable amount of information to go on," Bushway said.

He said he is "reasonably confident" police would be able to apprehend the second suspect in the very near future.

Murphy was arraigned at Wrentham District Court yesterday after being held on $25,000 bail.
