Children of all ages from the Dedham School District will display their watercolors, ceramics, drawings and other works of art next Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Dedham Middle School.
"Art in Bloom" will be the district's first show ever to feature the work of K-12 students. Student musicians and a professional jazz quartet will perform.
The quality of student work and the caliber of the music and art department staff both gave rise to the show, said Superintendent June Doe.
"Our art and music programs have the finest staff," she said. "We take a lot of pride in the caliber of staff we have teaching in art and music."
In the past, the district didn't have a good place to showcase large quantities of student art. The new middle school, which opened in time for the 2007-2008 school year, has provided such a forum.
"The new middle school lends itself perfectly to having a large group of people. We're using the school to its fullest potential," she said.
Director of Fine Arts Joe Brogran and art teachers Jane Downey and Arlene Tracey have been the driving force to make sure everything gets done, said Doe.
"The teachers are very enthusiastic about the opportunity to showcase students," she said. "We have some very talented folks in the high school."
