The Fourth Annual Oktoberfest has been expanded to a full weekend of entertainment on the grounds of Dedham's Endicott Estate on East Street.

The weekend kicks-off, Friday, Sept. 17 with “Music Under The Tent, featuring the local group, The Contentments, along with special guest, The Joe Brogan Jazz Trio.

An Oktoberfest first, the Dedham School of Music will provide top performers for the opening night music festival. The line-up includes: The Contentments, The Shiretown Horns, and The Joe Brogan Jazz Trio.

“The Dedham School of Music was formed to enrich the surrounding communities with a variety of music,” said Fred Civian, board member. “The Oktoberfest weekend promises to offer a great jamming session by talented amateurs from throughout this region.”

The musical event starts at 7 p.m., with the last dance at 11. Tickets are $20 per person with a cash bar and snacks. For more information, please call Endicott Estate at 781-326-0012.

On Saturday, Sept. 18, the Dedham Community Theatre on High Street will offer “Comedy Under the Tent,” featuring an all-star line-up, including headliner Patti Ross.

Another first for Oktoberfest is the Saturday night “Comedy Under the Tent,” which brings together top talent in the comedy arena, both local and national. Dedham native Patti Ross, who always turns in a sold-out crowd, is the featured headliner for both scheduled shows at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The first show also features comedian Paul Smith. The second act stars talent who’ve appeared on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and on the “Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien,” with numerous appearances on Comedy Central - Juston McKinney and Paul D’Angelo.

Paul McMurtry, producer of the comedy event and owner of Dedham Community Theatre said, “This is a fantastic weekend of fun and entertainment for everyone in the area. Endicott Estate provides the perfect setting for live stand-up comedy. We are proud to support such a great event within this historical landmark.”

Tickets for the Sept. 18 show are $20. Cash bar and snacks will be available for this over 21 event. To buy tickets early, please call Community Theatre at 781.326-0409, or go to www.ticketweb.com.

The weekend will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 19, with the traditional aroma, sounds and entertainment of Oktoberfest.

The weekend’s activities culminate to the grand annual Oktoberfest on Sunday, Sept.19 from noon to 5 p.m. Now in its fourth year, Oktoberfest has grown to become a crowd-pleasing custom that attracts generations of families and neighbors from across the region. In the spirit of the original Oktoberfest of Munich dating back to 1810, the upcoming event at Endicott Estate offers a taste of Bavaria in Dedham, with a wide selection of music, entertainment and expanded activities for children and families. An array of food and drink will be offered including German traditional favorites of bratwurst and sauerkraut, as well as pulled pork, grilled pizza and sausages. The “bier garten” will feature a fine selection of beers and favorite wines. Cost of admission is $5 per person, children under 13 are free.

The 2010 Oktoberfest will include live German entertainment with the 12-piece renowned band, The Oberlaendler Hofbrau. In full traditional dress, playing the anvil and musical bells, the band encourages all attendees, young and old, to sing along and dance with the Musicant, the Wood Chopper and New England’s favorite, “The Beer Barrel Polka.”

The event will also feature scores of vendors and supporters, including longtime supporters National Amusements, located in Norwood, and Blue Hill Blue Hills Regional Technical School, located in Canton.  Partnering this year for the first time is Blue Hills Brewery, a microbrewery based in Canton.

“We are pleased to be involved with the Oktoberfest for the fourth year, to support the volunteers and the community, as they come together to celebrate and preserve the Endicott Estate,” said Tony Pungitore, Director of Operations for National Amusements.”
