Residents soon may not have to choose between watching that Red Sox playoff game or attending that Board of Selectmen meeting.
The town is looking into putting replays of town meetings on the internet.
First mentioned at a Board of Selectmen meeting at the end of March, Town Administrator Michael Boynton last week said the town continues to explore the possibility of streaming town meeting videos online.
"It's got some serious upside to it," he said. He stressed, however, that he wasn't "sold on it."
The spring and fall Annual Town Meetings, as well as weekly Board of Selectmen and School Committee meetings, are currently played live on Walpole Community Television (WCTV), the local cable-access station.
School Committee meetings are replayed. Boynton said any online move would "certainly not replace" what WCTV does.
The town initially contacted CGI Communications, Inc. - an upstate New York online video company - to explore the various paths available to the town.
The company explained some of their programs, Boynton said at the time.
Last week, Boynton said the town only talked to the one company, and that discussions had been "very preliminary."
It's a relatively new, rare thing in this area, he said, though he's seen it elsewhere. The idea is for Walpole to "kind of blaze the trail" in this brave new online world, he said.
