THE STORY: After flirting with the Tri-Valley League, which offered it a coveted expansion bid, the School Committee votes 5-2 in March to keep Dedham High School in its home of five decades, the Bay State Conference.

The back story

Dedham is the smallest Bay State Conference school with about 800 students – a size that matches up much better with the schools in the Tri-Valley, and a move there could have allowed the Marauders to become more competitive in some sports. But after public sentiment overwhelmingly favors staying in the Bay State, the School Committee concurs with Superintendent of Schools June Doe’s recommendation that Dedham remain there.

As the year ends, a Bay State Conference subcommittee continues to study how to make the league more competitive and balanced for all 12 of its schools.
