The murder case against Daniel Bradley and Paul Moccia took a few new turns today, but the result of their latest court appearance was the same: both men will continue to be held without bail.

Judge Paul Chernoff ordered Bradley, 47, of Westwood and Moccia, 49, of Dedham to be held without bail at their arraignment in Norfolk Superior Court today for first-degree murder and conspiracy to murder in the death of Angel Antonio Ramirez, 37, of Framingham. Both said they are not guilty. They are due back in court Oct. 9 for a pretrial conference.

Chernoff said he was holding the co-defendants without prejudice, meaning their lawyers can argue bail again if something changes in the case in the intervening weeks.

Assistant District Attorney Robert Nelson alleged that Moccia was unable to pay about $70,000 he owed Ramirez in drug money, so he decided to kill the Framingham man. The government’s investigation revealed that Moccia told his brother, Robert Moccia, that he shot Ramirez, “and that Mr. Bradley also shot the victim,” Nelson said.

At their first arraignment in Wrentham District Court in June, Nelson had said only that Moccia shot Ramirez, in the back, with a .357 Magnum.

The shooting took place either inside the Bradley family’s concrete business in Walpole, or nearby outside, Nelson said.

And while Nelson famously said in June that Bradley took the body into the concrete business where it was dismembered and eventually “cooked,” he backed off the cooking statement today.

“Mr. Bradley cut up the body, and initially the term that was used was that the body was going to be cooked,” Nelson said, adding that it turns out an incinerator was used.

“At this time we still don’t know where that incinerator is located, or where the body is,” he said.
