Police said they arrested Jason Leal, 24, of 6 Morning Way in Cumberland, Rhode Island, on charges of possession of a burglarious instrument and shoplifting over $100 on Saturday, April 24, after a manager said that he ran out of BJ’s Wholesale Club without paying for items and headed toward Best Buy.

Lt. Robert Nedder said police officers responded to BJ’s, at 688 Providence Highway, at 1:05 p.m., and within a few moments found Leal, who matched the description they had been given. Leal denied being involved in anything at BJ’s, but then admitted he took several items, Nedder said. Officers found an orange box-cutter in his pocket, and found several DVDs worth $177 in the bushes nearby, according to Nedder.

Leal pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Dedham District Court April 26, and is due back there for a pretrial hearing May 24, Nedder said. Leal also faces warrant charges from Attleboro District Court for driving with a suspended license and driving without a license, he added.
