ATTLEBORO —

The former branch manager of the North Attleborough Registry of Motor Vehicles is charged with buying marijuana while at work.

Laura Preibis of Norwood pleaded not guilty to a possession charge on Thursday in Attleboro District Court. She was freed without bail.

State police were tipped off on June 5 by a witness who reported seeing an alleged drug transaction involving the 52-year-old Preibis in her office. A registry employee told police on June 12 that Preibis had been involved in an alleged drug buy in the registry parking lot, according to The Sun-Chronicle.

Police confronted Preibis in her office and recovered a small amount of marijuana from her car.
A registry spokeswoman says Preibis was placed on administrative leave following the incident and no longer works for the agency.
