Thursday, Oct. 22

Haunted Pet Cemetery - The Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Dedham branch, at 55 Anna’s Place, is hosting a night of spooky tales on a stroll through the oldest section of its 100-year-old Pine Ridge Pet Cemetery – home of the dogs owned by the notorious Lizzie Borden – on Thursday, Oct. 22, Friday Oct. 23 and Saturday Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. each night. The cost is $10 per person (includes complimentary cider or cocoa). Information: 781-326-0729

Friday, Oct. 23

Talk on history - The Dedham Retired Mens' Club will meet on Friday, Oct. 23, where Dr. Gary Highlander will speak on President Lincoln and Gettysburg. Members are reminded to bring toilet articles for the West Roxbury V.A. Hospital. The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Endicott Estate, 656 East St. Coffee and doughnuts are available around 10 a.m. before our guest speaker.

Saturday, Oct. 24

Author at Blue Bunny - Author/illustrator Matt Tavares will be at The Blue Bunny bookstore, at 577 High St., on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., for a book signing of “The Gingerbread Pirates.” He worked with author Kristin Kladstrup on this new piece. Tavares’s works include the baseball-themed picture books “Zachary’s Ball,” “Oliver’s Game” and “Mudball.”

Dedham Climate Day – A Rally for the Planet, will be held on Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Dedham Middle School, 70 Whiting Ave. Dedham’s Sustainability Advisory Committee is hosting the event that will feature family-friendly festival of great music, games, green vendors and food. Bottle and can drive - Support the fifth-grade class Footsteps to Freedom fieldtrips at the Avery School on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. Drop off all redeemable bottles and cans in front of the school and they will do the rest.

Sunday, Oct. 25

Dedham Recreation Day - The Friends of Dedham Recreation and the Friends of the Dedham Pool will hold its annual Dedham day on Sunday, Oct. 25 starting at noon at John Barnes Memorial park. There will be a barbecue, games, rides, crafts, shows and music. The event also includes the annual memorial mega cow flap. A field will be divided into 3,000 individual deeded squares. Deeds will be sold at $10 per square. This gives you the opportunity to share in $9,000 in prizes. At 1 p.m. “Juliette the cow” will be lead onto the deeded field. The first plot that she fertilizes wins $5,000 the second $2,500, the third $1,000 and the fourth $500. All instructions are contained on your deed. If “Juliette” fails to fertilize the four plots by 3:30 p.m., a drawing will be held for the number of prizes that were not fertilized. Genealogy workshop - Do you want to learn how to search for ancestors? There will be a Genealogy Workshop on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Old Fisher School, 830 High St. in Westwood sponsored by the Aaron Guild Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Old Fisher School is the headquarters of the Westwood Historical Society. This workshop is open to residents in surrounding towns. Tuesday, Oct. 27

Butterfly talk -The Norwood Evening Garden Club will host Meg Moore naturalist and educator for the Audubon Society, the New England Wildflower Society, and other horticultural organizations on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6:45 p.m. at the Ellis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 135 Ellis Ave, Norwood. Moore will offer design ideas for attracting butterflies and birds to your backyard and how to keep them coming back. The public is invited to attend for a small donation. Refreshments will be served. The club, open to novice and expert gardeners, draws its members from Norwood, Walpole, Westwood, Dedham, Canton, Medfield, Randolph and Stoughton. Wednesday, Oct. 28

Informational meeting - The Neponset Valley Sunrise Rotary Club to hold an informational meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at Dedham’s Italian American Citizens Club, 21 Allen Lane. Local Rotarians will be on hand to discuss projects and membership. Food and refreshments will be served. Saturday, Oct. 31
