NORWOOD —

Door-to-door delivery of Norwood’s new wheeled rubbish and recycling Carts, for use in the town’s Automated Curbside Collection Program, begins Monday.

The new Automated Collection Program begins on Monday, Oct. 6, so these carts should not be used until then.

As part of this program, only household trash and recycling that is placed in specially marked barrels ( “carts”), provided by Waste Management, the town’s collection contractor, will be collected. These carts will replace your old rubbish barrels and recycling bins.

The contractor will distribute the new wheeled collection carts to each eligible household beginning Monday and continuing through Friday, Oct. 3.

Each household or dwelling unit eligible for curbside collection will receive one 64-gallon rubbish cart (with a hinged green cover) and one 96-gallon recycling cart (with a hinged yellow cover).

The two carts will be delivered by separate vehicles, and may arrive on different days.

After the Oct. 6 start date, the contractor will collect these new carts only. Any household rubbish and recycling put out for collection in other containers or barrels, or in plastic bags or boxes placed outside the cart, will not be collected. The old yellow and red recycling bins will no longer be collected either; all recycling (both paper and containers, which no longer have to be separated) goes in the larger cart with the yellow cover.

If you will be away during the two weeks that the Contractor will be delivering the carts, or if your home is otherwise vacant, please call Public Works at 781-762-1413. The town does not want to deliver carts to a vacant dwelling; you can make arrangements for delivery upon your return.

If you do not receive your barrels by Wednesday, Oct. 1, call Public Works.
