Thursday, Nov. 19

Movie discussion - The Dedham Historical Society will present “Re-creating the lost 1919 “Anne of Green Gables” silent movie,” on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m., at the Society’s auditorium/museum on High Street. The cost is $5 for non-members, with no charge for members. Movie history was made 90 years ago in Dedham, when the first film version of the popular novel “Anne of Green Gables,” was filmed at the Fairbanks House and other locations in the area. Information: www.dedhamhistorical.org.

Alzheimer's discussion - Lindsay P. Brennan, helpline coordinator with the Alzheimer's Association will give a presentation on the caring for the caregiver and reducing risk factors for Alzheimer's disease on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Golden LivingCenter-Dedham, 1007 East St. Light Refreshments will be provided. 

Friday, Nov. 20

Cheerleading fundraiser - Support Dedham High School Cheerleading program by attending “Hypnosis Gone Wild,” by Dan Candell, a fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 20. The 8 p.m. event will be held at the VFW Hall on Eastern Avenue. The event is open to adults over 21, and tickets cost $20 a person. Holiday Shopping - The nest, at 622 High St., will host a holiday shopping event and cocktail reception on Friday, Nov. 20 from noon to 8 p.m. with the cocktail reception starting at 5 p.m. During the event meet Susan Bartlett Crater, co-author and granddaughter of “Shabby Chic” decorating icon, Sister Parish, who is famous for creating the classic “American country” style of home décor. Also meet acclaimed freshwater pearl jewelry designer and former Good Housekeeping assistant fashion editor, Portia Clark, and view her selection of “timeless with a twist” pearl necklaces, bracelet’s and earrings – great gift ideas for yourself or someone special. Portia’s pearls have been featured in publications such as Allure, Good Housekeeping, and Yankee magazine and are worn regularly by Katie Couric. Information session - Parents interested in learning more about The Rashi School are invited to attend one of our upcoming Information Sessions, on Friday, Nov. 20, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.; Sunday, Dec. 6, 1 to 3 p.m. and Tuesday Dec. 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the School pm, and Tuesday, December 8 from 9:30-11 a.m. at the school, 15 Walnut Park, Newton. Attendees can park at the school’s lot at 200 Jackson Road. Saturday, Nov. 21

Book signing - Author Carolyn Strom Collins will be at The Blue Bunny bookstore, at 577 High St. on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 10:30 p.m. to sign copies of her book “The Anne of Green Gables Treasury.”

Meat Raffle - The U.S.S. Jacob Jones Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2017 and its Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual Thankgiving Meat Raffle on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 1 to 5 p.m., at the post hall at 84 Eastern Ave. Prizes will consist of turkeys and other items related to Thanksgiving. There will be consolation prizes and a door prize. There will be a special raffle for a complete turkey dinner. Free hot dogs and coffee will be served.

Bottle and can drive - Support the fifth-grade class Footsteps to Freedom fieldtrips at the Avery School on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Drop off all redeemable bottles and cans in front of the school and they will do the rest.

Tuesday, Nov. 24

Duct Tape crafts – The Dedham Public Library will hold a Duct Take craft class on Nov. 24 at its Endicott Branch, 257 Mount Vernon St., at 3:30 p.m. Did you know that Duct Tape helped save the lives of astronauts aboard Apollo 13? But during the class at the library, participants will learn to make wallets. Crafters age 10 and older are invited to participate. Registration is required. Stop by the children’s room at the main library, or call 781-751-9283 to sign up.

Friday, Nov. 27

Man-Sitting - Black Friday, Nov. 27, Man-Sitting at Kings Dedham gives every guy the opportunity to spend a day off from work as he should: sipping on an ice cold brew while catching all the day’s sports action. With bowling, beer, billiards, bar food and more, Kings has created the perfect “man-sitting” venue for the busiest shopping day of the season. Saturday, Nov. 28

OOP! Art Night – Children will be displaying their work on Nov. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at OOP’s Legacy Place location. A variety of art will be for sale. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Boston Children’s Museum.

Monday, Nov. 30

Storytime – There will be a special Baseball storytime and craft with Catching Joy, a nonprofit organization that promotes volunteerism in preschool and elementary aged children, on Monday, Nov. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at The Blue Bunny bookstore, at 577 High St. The event is free and open to all ages but, pre-registration is required.
