WALPOLE —

The Sharon Credit Union was robbed again Tuesday by a man police say "terrorized" bank workers with a gun before fleeing with cash.

Police say the man robbed the 2 Union St. bank shortly after noon.

No one was hurt during the heist, Police Chief Richard Stillman said outside the bank, but the bandit "terrorized" employees during the ordeal.

At times, the man held what appeared to be a black, semiautomatic handgun within inches of employees' heads, police said.

"He stuck the gun in their faces with his finger on the trigger and he yelled at them," Deputy Police Chief Scott Bushway said.

At one point, he said, the man jumped up on the bank counter.

"We're considering this person very dangerous," noted Bushway.

There were no customers in the bank, the deputy chief said.

The man, who was carrying a small black bag, ran down a wooded embankment, according to police.

Police with tracking dogs searched the area without success. Dogs tracked a scent to nearby Washington Street where police believe the man was picked up by an accomplice.

No one from the bank saw a getaway car, said Bushway.

The robber was described as a lanky white man in his 20s or 30s, about 6 feet tall. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a Red Sox cap, jeans, white sneakers, a black mouth covering and a black bandana that he used to cover his face from his eyes to the top of his mouth, according to Bushway.

Bushway said the robber also had long black dreadlocks, but officers suspect they may have been a wig.

Sharon Credit Union was robbed at gunpoint on the afternoon of Sept. 29, 2008. Police have made no arrests in that robbery. That suspect was described as olive-skinned, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, and with a medium to stocky build.

Last month, police arrested Dani M. Jaber of Roslindale after they said he tried to force his way into the bank and rob it just after closing time.

Officers said they don't believe any of the three incidents are related, but they are looking into whether the robbery may be connected to a rash of bank robberies in the Needham area this spring.

Stillman said the reason why Sharon Credit Union is a target might be because of its location - close to Rte. 1 but in a fairly quiet part of town - which makes getaways easier.

Detectives James O'Connell and Robert Anderson are investigating. Police are reviewing video footage from the bank.
