Police: Man tried to cash fake check

DEDHAM – Police arrested a 59-year-old Dorchester man who they say tried to cash a fake payroll check for more than $1,500, but was stopped by an Eastern Bank employee who thought the check did not look right.

Lt. Robert Nedder said police went to the bank, at 240 Providence Highway, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, around 11:30 a.m. after they received a report of a man trying to cash a bad check. Police said the man also had an “unknown object” in his back pocket. Four officers set up a perimeter, and approached Clayton Green, of 79 Colburn St., Dorchester, as he left the bank, Nedder said.

Police said a bank teller, contacted the company listed on the check and discovered the check was a fake and that Green didn’t work for the company listed.

When Green spoke with police about the check, Green said all he knew was that a friend of a friend named Jim had given him the check for work he did for the company, Nedder said.

Police said Green was charged with uttering a false check, and attempt to commit a crime, to wit larceny over $250, Nedder said. He was arraigned in Dedham District Court later that same day. Green pleaded not guilty to all charges and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing Oct. 26.

Lt. Robert Nedder said officers John Barrett and Francis McMillan went to a home on Bussey Street on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 1:30 p.m., to issue a restraining order for Raquel Salerno, 18, of Bussey St.

As Salerno was leaving the apartment she kicked over a laundry basket in the kitchen and attempted to push over a table, Nedder said. The officers then moved to arrest her for violating the restraining order, but she resisted, Nedder said. She was charged with violating an abuse prevention order, and resisting arrest, police said
