A shopping spree with a stolen credit card ended in three arrests on Monday, Oct. 26, police said.
According to police, a threesome found a student’s wallet on the commuter rail and decided charge $888 to the Visa credit card issued by the bank of China inside. Police said the purchases were made at City Sports, the Gap and Levi Strauss & Co. at Legacy Place.
Officers Joshua Blaney and Keith Strong went to City Sports at about 5:55 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26 after getting a report of a stolen credit card being used there, said Lt. Robert Nedder. The officers found two men matching a description they had been given – Giovanni Brown, 20, and Lamarkus Vick, 17 – standing nearby with Rhonda Rascoe, 19, next to LensCrafters on Providence Highway, Nedder said.
They were carrying shopping bags from the Gap and City Sports and initially denied using a credit card, until Rascoe said she had bought everything in their possession with a credit card, Nedder said.
When asked where the card had come from, Vick “said that a friend by the name of Jeffrey had let them borrow the credit card to buy some clothes,” and that he had returned the card to Jeffrey, Nedder said. But police then found the card in question on the sidewalk, Nedder added.
Brown and Vick, both of 39 Dearborn St. Apt. 39 in Roxbury, were each charged with two counts of larceny under $250 and two counts of uttering a false instrument, the credit card, Nedder said. Rascoe, of 69 Glenway St. Apt. 3 in Boston, was charged with one count of larceny over $250, and one count of uttering a false instrument, he said.
They were arraigned Oct. 27 in Dedham District Court, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges. They are due back in court for a pretrial hearing Dec. 8, Nedder said.
