Remembering Allison White

NORWOOD - Friends and family of Allison White are joining forces to ensure her memory stays alive.
The 13-year-old Norwood High freshman was killed when she was struck by a car while walking to school in September 2004.
A Team Trivia Night will be held in her memory this Friday at the Elks at 7 p.m. Proceeds will go towards the Allison P. White Memorial Scholarship Fund. Cost is $20 per person or teams of eight or 10 are accepted for $175 and $150. There will also be a silent auction.
White's mother, Cindy, said last week the intent is to raise money to give several scholarships in her daughter's memory.
``Allison would have graduated with the Class of 2008, and we are hoping to gather enough funds to give out a few scholarships to her graduating class,'' said Cindy.
Cindy White said the new scholarships will be given to a graduating young man or woman who has shown pride in Norwood and has worked to visibly enrich the community.
The selection committee will look for applicants who have been on sports teams, participated in Recreation Department activities, such as the School of Dance, which Allison joined when she was 5.
Other considerations will include participation in the Boy or Girl Scouts, which was also one of Allison's favorite activities, or with the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, as Allison did many times.
Allison already has one scholarship named in her memory and given out annually by the Norwood Scholarship Foundation. That gift is given to a graduating senior who will be furthering their education in the fine arts.
``Allison dreamed of being a fashion designer from around age 8 when she began to dictate exactly how her Easter and Christmas outfits should look,'' said Cindy White.
