Photographer Sherry Fendell will present a slide show, "Vietnam: Then and Now" and lead a discussion tonight at 7 p.m. in the Framingham public Library.
To be held in the Costin Room, the hour-long event will feature about 200 photographs the Sudbury resident took during a three-week tour of the Southeast Asian country in 2004.
Fendell said she'll discuss Vietnam's history and how the people and scenes she photographed affected her perceptions of the nation.
During her 1,000-mile trip, she photographed people, temples and scenes in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Hoi An, regarded as the "prettiest village in Vietnam."
A professional landscape photographer, Fendell recalled photographing bomb craters left from the Vietnam War and the famous Chu Chi tunnels, a complex network of tunnels outside then-Saigon which the Vietcong used to attach U.S. forces.
Since hostilities ended in 1975, she said most Vietnamese "have moved on" in their feelings toward their former American enemies.
"They don't bear any grudges against us. They're open and friendly people. It's a beautiful country," Fendell said.

Out of the Doghouse
Earlier this month, fans of Dr. Dog left Harvard Square dismayed and disappointed. The rock band with the classic sound had to cancel their show due to rain.
The group is back to try again due to the overwhelming response from loyal Dog fans. In fact, it's been joked that the response has created its own event called "The Dr. Dog on Dunster Street Block Party."
This will be a great chance to hear previews from their upcoming July release "Fate." Saturday, May 31, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the area between Forbes Plaza and Dunster Street in Cambridge. Free. Call 617-491-3434.
