Women of the United Church of Norwood worked on “Ugly Quilts” recently for the Boston Project.

Paul Malkemes, executive director of the Boston Project Ministries, met with the WISH Women’s Group in April to introduce the work of the Boston Project. On Saturday, June 21, he returned with two of his staff members to show the women how to make the quilts. Two of these quilts were completed that day and two more were started.

Ugly Quilts are simple emergency sleeping bags made from recycled fabrics and distributed among the homeless in the Boston area. They are easily made and a group can put one together in an hour or two. The WISH women have partnered with the Boston Project to make these quilts on a continuing basis.

The Boston Project is a Christian community development ministry of committed staff and volunteers whose faith inspires them to seek the renewal of urban neighborhoods and the transformation of people’s lives in Boston’s underserved neighborhoods. The Boston Project is located in the Coldman Square neighborhood of Dorchester within the city of Boston.
