The newly rejuvenated Norwood High Athletic Hall of Fame will induct three members this summer.
The Hall of Fame Committee, which took nominations over the winter and spring, announced Phil DeRose, John Poce and Alison Dixon will be enshrined during a ceremony on Sept. 16 - the day after the annual Norwood Day celebration.
Additionally, the group will be honoring seven former inductees including Mike Wall (Class of 1987), Richie Hebner (1966), Tom Mahan (1974), Ed Rios (1988), Peter Brown (1972), the 1982 wrestling team and the 1984 field hockey team.
Committee Chairman Jim Gormley said DeRose, Poce and Dixon were each voted into the hall unanimously by the seven-member induction committee.
"I think the process worked very well," said Gormley. "And the they all said that if they could have elected a few more, there were certainly others that are deserving."
DeRose was a member of the Class of '61 and a three-sport athlete who eventually played semi-pro baseball and football at the University of Massachusetts.
Poce, who graduated in 1947, was an outstanding basketball and baseball player who won a four-year scholarship to play baseball at Boston University, where he played with the legendary Harry Agganis, who later played for the Red Sox.
Poce later also coached baseball at Norwood High.
Dixon was a member of the Class of 1997 and owns numerous records in basketball. Dixon was named most valuable player in the Bay State Conference her senior year, averaging 21 points and 15 rebounds a game before going off to play at Boston University. Dixon will be the third member of her family, joining her uncle Kevin and grandfather John, to be named to the Hall of Fame.
The current Hall of Fame honors roughly 30 athletes and teams who have plaques hanging in the Arthur Gulla lobby at the gymnasium.
