Dedham resident Wendy McAllister is serving as co-chairwoman of “An Evening with John Wood,” a fundraiser for Room to Read, which is slated for Thursday, Nov. 5, from 6-9:30 p.m. at the Harvard Club, Back Bay.
The evening will feature a presentation by John Wood, founder and executive chairman of Room to Read, which aims to break the cycle of poverty in the developing world by promoting and enabling global education.
Wood is a three-time speaker at the Clinton Global Initiative, a five-time winner of Fast Company’s Social Capitalist Award and the only non-Asian to be honored with TIME Magazine’s Asian Heroes Award. The author of Leaving Microsoft to Change the World, he has appeared on “Oprah,” CNN, PBS, and CNBC.
Founded in 2000, Room to Read has supported over three million children by providing increased access to higher-quality educational opportunities. Room to Read has established more than 700 schools and over 7,000 bilingual libraries with five million books, and continues to support the education of nearly 7,000 girls.
