RANDOLPH —

Five young men and women were shot at by someone in a passing car while they were driving on Rte. 24 toward Dedham around 12:30 Friday morning.

Of the five people in the car, two women and one man were shot, but their injuries were not life threatening, said Norfolk County District Attorney William Keating, whose office is investigating the incident.

The victims, who range in age from late teens to early 20s, told state police they had left the Brockton fairgrounds and were driving north on Rte. 24 when someone popped up through the sunroof of a passing white car and fired at them, Keating said.

Keating said they called 911 while driving through Randolph and state police met them on Rte. 128 in Dedham.

"I don’t know how long it took them because I’ve never been shot at, but a typical commute it’s only a few minutes," Keating said.

Police recovered eight rounds fired from an automatic pistol in the victims’ white Toyota Camry, he said.

Keating would not say how many people may have been in the other car or whether the incident was related to something that happened while the victims were at the Brockton Fair yesterday evening.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call the state police at 508-820-2121.
