NORWOOD —

Police arrested a 53-year-old man who they say was caught in the process of robbing a Prospect Street home Wednesday morning.

Guy L. Smith of Dorchester was arrested after police found him inside a home at 85 Prospect St. taking money, jewelry, prescription medications and cash, police said.

Police had been called by a neighbor who said a suspicious man was walking around in the home.

Officer Nicholas Guarino went to the home and found a blue rental car in the driveway. Guarino knocked on the door, but got no response.

As Guarino was walking around the house to check the back door, the homeowners pulled into the driveway. They told Guarino they did not recognize the blue car. Guarino told them to remain in the car when he heard a loud crash from the back of the house. Guarino ran to the rear of the home and saw Smith partially hanging out of a window, trying to get out.

Officer Anthony Copponi arrived at the scene and assisted in the arrest. According to police reports, Copponi asked Smith what he was doing at the home and Smith replied, "breaking in."

Smith was charged with breaking and entering, larceny over $250, and malicious destruction of property for breaking the window.
