Hebrew SeniorLife recently announced that Frederick Rowland has joined Hebrew Rehabilitation Center as the Medical Director of Long-Term Care and Clinical Operations, overseeing both the HRC Boston and Dedham, Mass. campuses. The creation of the new Medical Director position is a direct result of HRC’s continued growth and the organization’s commitment to providing the highest quality long-term care available to seniors in Greater Boston.

Dr. Rowland comes to HSL from Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Conn. where he served as the Chief, Section of Geriatric Medicine for the Department of Medicine, Director of the Medical Ethics Program, and Director of the Palliative Care Team. In addition to his position at Saint Francis Hospital, Dr. Rowland served as Medical Director of Campus Facilities and Programs at Mercy Community Health in West Hartford, Conn., Medical Director of Masonicare Hospice, and held an appointment as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

“During his impressive career, Dr. Rowland has shown a sincere compassion and commitment to improving the lives of seniors, and this dedication perfectly aligns with the HSL mission,” said Dr. Robert Schreiber, Chief Medical Officer at Hebrew SeniorLife. “The addition of Dr. Rowland to our leadership team marks an important time in our organization’s 108-year history as we continue to set the bar for senior care and innovate to improve the way long-term care is delivered.”

“I joined Hebrew SeniorLife and Hebrew Rehabilitation Center to be part of a group of committed geriatric leaders,” said Rowland. “I am thrilled to help grow an organization that is recognized as being at the forefront of geriatric care, research and teaching.”

Dr. Rowland’s professional community involvement includes: having served as Vice Chairman of the Connecticut Medicaid Drug Utilization Board; having served as President of the Connecticut Medical Directors Association; and currently serving on the Board of Directors of the American Medical Directors Association.

Dr. Rowland received his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College and his Ph.D. and M.D. from the University of Connecticut. He currently resides in Dedham with his family.
