Dedham resident Ellen Berkowitz will participate in the upcoming Israel Folkdance Festival of Boston. Berkowitz is the director and choreographer of the Kesem group from the Rashi School in Dedham. This year marks the group’s first performance at the dance festival. Ms. Berkowitz, a talented dancer in her own right, has performed on stage at many previous Israel Folkdance Festivals and has been a member of the Israel Folkdance Festival of Boston Coordinating Committee the all volunteer group which meets throughout the year to plan the annual event.
The Israel Folkdance Festival is an annual event, now in its thirty-fifth year, which brings together dancers from throughout the U.S. and Canada. Since its inception in 1977, the Israel Folkdance Festival has sought to promote Israeli folk dancing in Boston and to provide dancers with the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas.
This year’s Festival will be held on March 13, in M.I.T.’s Kresge Auditorium, Cambridge, at 3:00 p.m. The Festival will feature 24 dance groups and a range of Israeli dance styles including modern and traditional horas. Tickets are $15 and are available on-line at www.bostonfestival.org or at the door on the day of the performance.
