Some quick facts about the Alchemist’s Heady Topper, which kind of shocked me when I did the math.
According to founder/brewer John Kimmich, The Alchemist, based in Waterbury, Vt., brews 9,000 barrels of Heady Topper, the number one ranked beer in the world according to Beer Advocate reviews, a year.
Each barrel of beer is 31 gallons, and one gallon equals 128 ounces. That means each gallon of beer equals eight cans of Heady Topper.
That means each barrel is equal to 248 cans of Heady Topper.
So, for the year, the Alchemist produces 2,232,000 cans of the delicious brew. And no other beer. (Of course this does not take in account any spillage or other issues.)
That’s incredible to me, because I was there on Monday at 11 a.m., and there was a long line. Kimmich said there are lines every day.
There is no real point to this blog. It’s a good beer, but it’s incredible to me that any brewery can succeed brewing one beer that is so popular they can’t find time to brew another beer. I’m just glad I have a chance to get my hands on a few of the 2,232,000 cans they produce each year.
