Canby Financial Advisors LLC announced that Eric S. Phillips of Framingham has earned the certified financial planner certification.
Phillips joined Canby Financial in 2005 and has served since then as client service manager. He has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.
Before joining Canby Financial, Phillips served as a case writer for MetLife Financial Services in Waltham. He has also worked in various positions with Quest Capital Strategies Inc. in Framingham and Putnam Investments, Bank of New England, Evergreen Investments and Charles Schwab.
Phillips earned a bachelor's degree from Marietta College in Ohio and a financial planning certificate from Boston University.
Canby Financial, located in Framingham, provides financial planning, investment management and retirement planning services for families, individuals and business owners.

MetLife made a $5,000 donation to UMassSafe at a recent event in Waltham celebrating MetLife Auto & Home's 30th anniversary of writing auto and home insurance in Massachusetts.
UMassSafe, or the University of Massachusetts Traffic Safety Research Program, examines safety data to better understand crashes, driver behavior and related factors. The organization is house in the College of Engineering at UMass-Amherst.
Michael A. Knodler, assistant professor and director of UMassSafe, accepted the donation from Michelle DeWine, vice president of national distribution at MetLife Auto & Home.

Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP recently named Thomas Bhisitkul a partner.
The Southborough resident is a member of the real estate group and has been with the Boston law firm since 2000.
Bhisitkul is a commercial real estate attorney whose practice is focused on land use and development, leasing and land-use litigation.
He is a graduate of Boston College and Boston College Law School.

Stephen J. Levine has joined Purple Ink Insurance Agency Inc. in Ashland.
The Framingham resident is the agency's newest agent, having recently received his insurance license.
Levine was appointed director of corporate development for the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce in 2001, following six years serving business accounts at Sovereign Bank's largest branch in Boston and then in Framingham.
He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering sales from Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, N.Y.

Natick resident Kathy Jo Cook has been named president of the Women's Bar Association.
Cook is an attorney at Keches & Mallen PC in Boston, one of the state's largest plaintiff personal injury law firms.
She concentrates her practice in representing individuals injured as a result of medical or legal malpractice, defectively designed products, unsafe working conditions and unfair insurance practices.
Cook has been featured in the National Law Journal and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for her work as chairwoman of the Judicial Administration Section Council of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
The Mahomet, Ill., native is an honors graduate of Suffolk University Law School. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Houston.
The Women's Bar Association was founded in 1978 by a group of activist women lawyers. It has about 1,500 members who are lawyers, judges and law students in Massachusetts.

Kenneth Brennan, president and CEO of The Village Bank in Newton, recently announced that the bank's Auburndale Community Charitable Foundation Inc. will award a total of $40,000 in college scholarships.
The scholarships will go to Newton and Wayland residents who are graduating from high school this year and intending to pursue studies at an accredited college or university in the fall.
In addition to its traditional 10 one-time $2,000 scholarship grants, the foundation will award two scholarships totaling $10,000 each, which will be allocated upon successful completion of the first semester of each of the student's four academic years.
To be eligible for a $10,000 scholarship, a student must have demonstrated active involvement in local community or charitable causes. The student or an immediate family member must also have been a customer of The Village Bank since at least January 2007.
Application forms are available at Village Bank locations in Auburndale, Newtonville, Nonantum, Newton Highlands, Waban and Wayland, and online at www.village-bank.com. The submission deadline is April 15.
