Movers and Shakers for July 12, 2009

The nation’s oldest child and family service agency, The Home for Little Wanderers (The Home), recently announced that Wellesley resident Christina Wing O’Donnell has been appointed to the organization’s Board of Ambassadors.

Wing O’Donnell holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and is a partner of Wing-O’Donnell Ventures, an independent investment practice. She and her husband, Thomas O’Donnell, have three children.

Additionally, Wing O’Donnell is on the board of The Steppingstone Foundation and is an active committee member for The Home’s first all women’s golf outing, Home in One.

Launched in 2007, the Board of Ambassadors is a volunteer body composed of The Home’s most loyal advocates. Each ambassador plays an integral role in The Home’s efforts to raise critical philanthropic support to help the nearly 10,000 children at risk and their families in the nonprofit’s programs across Eastern Massachusetts each year. The Homer is based in Boston.


William D. Mooney, president of the Building Trades Training Directors Association of Massachusetts, was recently presented with a special award to recognize his sponsorship and leadership in promoting the Helmets to Hardhats program and his role in making the program successful in Massachusetts.

A Milford resident, Mooney is a former decorated Marine who entered the building trades 40 years ago after serving in Vietnam. He became an apprentice with Operating Engineers Local 4, and then worked as an operating engineer before becoming director of the Operating Engineers Local 4 training center.

His career ultimately led him to serve as the president of the Building Trades Training Directors Association of Massachusetts, an organization that represents building trades joint apprenticeship training centers across the state.


Mark O’Connell of Hudson, president and chief executive officer of Avidia Bank, has been elected to the board of directors of the Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF) in Woburn.

DIF provides excess deposit insurance to 68 Massachusetts-chartered savings banks. At DIF member banks, all deposit amounts above FDIC insurance limits are insured in full by the Depositors Insurance Fund.

O’Connell joined Hudson Savings Bank, a predecessor of Avidia, in 1988 and became president and chief executive officer in 2004. A certified public accountant, O’Connell was previously with T.C. Edwards & Co. as an auditor and partner.

O’Connell is a graduate of Salem State College with an MBA from UMass-Lowell. A director and past chairman of the United Way of Tri-County, he also serves as a director of the Marlborough Hospital Charitable Foundation and the Financial Managers Society.

Avidia Bank is a state-chartered community bank headquartered in Hudson.


Bruce Klemer, manager of Century 21 Commonwealth Framingham, recently announced that Bill Jagher of Ashland has joined the real estate company’s office.

Jagher, a longtime Framingham resident, has been serving residential and commercial needs for 10 years and has earned designations as a certified buyer representative and certified relocation specialist.
