Movers and Shakers for Sept. 13, 2009

Diane L. LeBlanc, Eileen Colella, Susan Paley, Lilly Trainor and Fernando C. Soares have been promoted at The Village Bank.

LeBlanc was promoted to vice president, responsible for the human resources function. She joined The Village Bank as human resources manager in 2004, with prior experience at Community National Bank.

She holds professional designations as a senior professional in human resources and certified employee benefit specialist, and serves as a board member of the MetroWest Human Resources Management Association. She resides in Hudson.

Colella, servicing manager in the bank’s loan department, was promoted to assistant vice president. A former legal secretary, she joined the bank in 1996. She was the recipient of the bank’s highest honor, the President’s Award, in 2006.

A Natick resident, she works with that town’s Relay for Life Committee and is a Paddy’s Road Race volunteer. She has also taught basic banking principles for participants of The Second Step Program.

Paley, who has been the bank’s community relations officer since 2007, was promoted to assistant vice president. She resides in Newton.

Active in the community, she serves on the board of advisers of the Newton Council on Aging, is a prevention specialist/volunteer for the Child Assault Prevention program run by the Newton Community Service Center and is a board member of the Newton Historical Society.
Paley is also on the membership committee of the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Theatre Arts Opportunity Committee of Newton North High School and vice chair of Newton’s Fair Housing Committee.

Soares, manager of the bank’s Newton Highlands branch, was promoted to assistant treasurer. He joined The Village Bank in 2006, and was previously a loan officer with Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union. He is a Framingham resident.

Trainor, who joined The Village Bank in 2009 as manager of its Newtonville branch, was promoted to assistant treasurer. She previously served as community banking officer at Benjamin Franklin Bank’s Newtonville office. She resides in Billerica.

Based in Auburndale, The Village Bank has seven full-service offices in Newton and Wayland and a loan center in Auburndale.


Todd Vroman, most recently from Digital Credit Union, has joined the professional staff of the Legacy Financial Group in Providence, R.I., a general agency of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. (MassMutual).

The Southborough resident will fill the position of sales manager.

He earned his B.A. degree at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where he majored in interdisciplinary studies.

Elaine Bridge, RN, MBA, senior vice president for patient care and chief nursing officer at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, was recently honored with the Mary B. Conceison Award for Excellence in Nursing Leadership presented at the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives (MONE) Annual Meeting.

The Holliston resident was given this award in recognition of her consistent, strong leadership as a nursing leader, as well as her numerous contributions to nursing education.

Bridge has been a member of the executive management team at Newton-Wellesley Hospital for nine years. She oversees the delivery of all inpatient and outpatient care for medical, surgical, critical care, OB/GYN, inpatient and ambulatory subspecialty pediatrics, psychiatry, perioperative services, adult and pediatric GI, emergency department, specialty clinics, health-care quality, clinical education and nursing informatics.

Over the past few years, Bridge has been responsible for the development and oversight of Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s new 36,000-square-foot Blum Emergency Pavilion, the hospital’s patient progression effort which resulted in a reduced length of stay by 11 hours. She is currently overseeing the construction of the new 24-bed inpatient unit, scheduled to open later this fall.

In addition, Bridge chairs the Partners HealthCare System’s (PHS) High Performance Medicine Safe Medication Subgroup and the PHS Quadramed Implementation Team. As a member of the PHS Chief Nurses Council, she oversees many educational initiatives, including the Clinical Leadership Diversity Collaboration with the University of Massachusetts, which focuses on expanding diversity in the nursing profession.

Bridge currently serves as secretary of MONE. She has also served as a member of its finance committee and chair of its bylaws committee. In 2009, Bridge was nominated as president-elect. She was also the recipient of a Boston College "Leadership for Change" certificate.

A graduate of University of Rhode Island with a bachelor of science degree in nursing, she received an MBA from Framingham State College. She currently holds positions as a clinical instructor at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Professions and Cambridge College.


Century 21 Commonwealth recently announced that Henry Valati of Blackstone has joined the Franklin Commonwealth office.

Valati is president of The Friends of the Blackstone Council on Aging, a board member of the Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club, a former member of the Blackstone Millville Regional School Committee and the former president and owner of Henry’s Auto Parts Inc.

Valati sold more than $9 million in real estate in 2008.
