Beverly Hospital Orthopedic Services RN, Sue Twombly is seen here helping Kevin Flaherty as he gets started taking the baseline concussion test, sponsored by the Beverly Hospital, along with other members of the freshman football team inside the library at the Beverly High School.
Here on the North Shore and around the country, school days are upon us yet again. Kids are not only heading back to the classroom, but also out onto the field. Fall sports are gearing up and although local athletes are lacing up and straping on protective gear, the threat of injury is always present.
From concussions to ACL injuries, many things can do wrong on the sports field and student athletes and parents need to be educated on injury prevention, as well as signs and treatments.
Recently at Beverly High School, student athletes took part in imPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) testing. The high school recently teamed up with Beverly Hospital to administer the testing.
